GAMUT PROFILE

 Gamut is a progressive barangay of Tago located in the central part of Surigao del sur. It is bounded on the north by Capital city of Tandag, Northeast by barangay Dayoan , East by barangay Camagong, South by barangay Unaban and barangay Cagdapao on West.

Gamut has ten (10) Purok (barangay zone) namely African daisy, Bombels, Dahlia, Genia, Golden Duranta, Rosas, Sampaguita, San Francisco, Santan and Sun Flower. Based from the 2007 National Statistic Office (NSO) census, barangay Gamut has a total population of 2,186. Gamut has a secondary and Central Elementary school with concrete building and good facilities run by National Government under Department of Education (DepEd) and two (2) day care center run by barangay local government and the other one is run by Christian Church.

Gamut has also a complete health care facility in barangay health center manage by Municipal Health Office of Tago and barangay local government with friendly midwife’s and more than 20 barangay health worker volunteers.

Gamut has also a barangay plaza (park) with children’s playground, a  basketball covered court (mini gymnasium), volley ball court, kiosk, multi-purpose barangay hall which  serves as the office of the Sanguniang barangay (barangay council), session hall and the office of the barangay chairman, public market, bus and Jeepney terminal operated by barangay local government.

Gamut is one of the cleanest and greenest barangay of Surigao del sur, the one and only barangay of Tago celebrating the longest community week and annual palarong pambarangay every October 1 to 7, The Gamutnons celebrates Araw ng Gamut and Christmas party every New year (1^st of January) while the Roman Catholic church celebrates fiesta of the Holy Rosary every 7^th of October in Honor of the patron saint of the barangay. Gamut is a center of religious faith. Due to the increasing number of Roman Catholic members the holy Rosary chapel became a Parish Church last 2003. With the help of the parishioners of Gamut and respective neighboring barangays, the two story Holy Rosary Parish convent was built and last June 2009 the construction of modern and big Holy Rosary Parish Church was started. And there are also other religions like Assembly of God, Baptist, Full Gospel, Jesus loves you, Seventh Day Adventist and Iglesia ni Cristo with their respective churches.

Gamut is a center of business for buying and selling local product such as copra, palay, corn, soybeans, abaca, coffee beans, vegetable and other crops from deferent neighboring barangays and the neighboring municipality of San Miguel. Gamut also has mini supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, carenderia’s, welding shops, rice and corn mills and many sari-sari stores. Tago police station has established Kababayan Center located in Gamut public market that serves as public assistance center for PUB/PUJ’s pedestrians and community as a whole. Stable peace and order condition of barangay Gamut has given assurance and confidence to businessman coming in and out the socio economic of the locality.
